We all know the symptoms when we see them, whether it starts with itchy eyes or a phlegmy cough. At their worst, some of these symptoms may even include open mouth sores, diarrhea, or vomiting for multiple days. The germs that thrive in your child’s daycare, otherwise known as daycare diseases, are among some of the most common culprits of illnesses spread within a family. While we can’t necessarily expect toddlers and young children to thoroughly wash their hands after every trip to the bathroom, we can ensure that these diseases on surfaces such as floors, tables, toys, toilets are eliminated by using professional sanitation services to protect kids and other families alike from these dangerous illnesses.
Otherwise known as Pink Eye, Conjunctivitis causes a painful inflammation of the outer membrane of your eye. It is often caused by a virus or bacteria such as staph or strep that causes itching and burning of the eye. Because bacteria and viruses are transmitted so frequently amongst children in daycare, pink eye is especially common for kids.
Hand, Foot, and Mouth Disease
Arguably the most severe and painful daycare disease, Hand, Foot and Mouth Disease is a viral skin disease that is typically transmitted through a child’s direct contact with infected mucus or saliva. This disease is particularly painful because it is known to cause mouth sores and high fever, making it an especially serious condition for children if the fever persists.
Known as the stomach flu, gastroenteritis is a painful illness that is caused by both viruses and bacteria such as E. coli. It’s symptoms typically include diarrhea, vomiting, and other gastrointestinal complications that are often painful and difficult for children. Because children may not wash their hands as frequently or thoroughly as adults, it is not uncommon for kids to become sick with the stomach flu at various times throughout the year.
Upper Respiratory Infections
An upper respiratory infection, or the common cold, is a viral infection that is often passed around children or students in daycares and schools. Although it is not usually serious, it can often cause high fevers, coughing, and runny nose, which makes it even more easily contagious in a daycare setting.
