Is Your Business Affected by the Summer Travel Influx? Know the Germs to Keep Out of Your Business for the Season

For many businesses, the summer season means an influx of customers due to tourism and a spike in travel as school is out for the summer.

For many businesses, the summer season means an influx of customers due to tourism and a spike in travel as school is out for the summer. While this can be great for increased revenue and busy nights for your business, it can also open the door to germs and dangerous illnesses if surfaces of your restaurant or storefront are not regularly sanitized throughout the season. Whether your business is a popular restaurant or a hotspot for tourists, consider the many germs to avoid this summer season.

E. Coli in Restaurants

Diarrhea, nausea, and gastrointestinal complications? While there are various forms of bacteria that often thrive within a restaurant, one of the most unpleasant is E. coli, as it grows and spreads across multiple surfaces throughout a restaurant setting. This particular bacteria is most often blamed as the culprit for food poisoning, spread through contaminated foods and fecal matter on hands that prepare it. It is also found on items such as menus, high chairs, tables, and even garnish lemons for drinks.

Staph Infections

Because staph is found on the skin of animals and people, it is always a health risk to those who travel or dine out multiple times throughout the week. It is most often found on surfaces that are touched most frequently, such as door handles and faucet handles. Along with E. Coli, staph is also sometimes responsible for food poisoning when the food is prepared with contaminated hands or left uncooked with bacteria thriving at room temperature. Unlike the more temporary symptoms of food poisoning from E. Coli, staph infections can be particularly dangerous as infections in the skin. With this, they can be difficult to contain, and can even be deadly, if left untreated as an open sore.

Common Cold

Are you or your customers touching mucus? Although this virus is typically associated with winter months, the common cold remains ever present in the summer as well. It is most often transmitted by mucus spread by people touching their nose with their hands then contaminating surfaces around them. To avoid the spread of common cold in your business throughout the year, it is crucial to have surfaces in your restaurant or store professionally sanitized, especially after a high volume of customers in summer months.
