Why Should You Sanitize Your Public Restroom Before the Holidays?

A quick cleaning of the restroom is always necessary every day, but without this constant upkeep, the restroom can become a very dangerous place, and you won’t want to come back from a holiday break to something so unhealthy.

As Thanksgiving comes to a close, and the holiday season fast approaches, there is a likelihood that your public restroom will be left unattended for long weekends or extended breaks.  A quick cleaning of the restroom is always necessary every day, but without this constant upkeep, the restroom can become a very dangerous place, and you won’t want to come back from a holiday break to something so unhealthy.  Sanitizing your bathroom is important–but before a long period of time away, it’s even more so.  Read on to find out why.

Bacteria Grows

When left alone for too long, bacteria can form and grow in just about every place in a public restroom.  Particularly, the toilets, urinals, floors and the walls; when left unattended for long periods of time, the bacteria can multiply and pose an even greater risk for illness and spread of disease.  And it’s easy for bacteria to be missed while cleaning; only a thorough sanitization done by professionals can truly get rid of all bacteria on a surface.

Odor Strengthens

With doors closed and heat running low to save energy, there’s little to air out the restroom when it isn’t being used.  This causes fecal matter and bacteria to create odors that only get worse with time.  Unpleasant odors can deter guests and customers very quickly, and will leave them with a bad impression of your establishment.  Sanitization can get rid of these odors and then keep them away, so when you return from your break, everything is still as fresh as you left it.

Water Damage

Standing water is not only a breeding ground for insects; it’s also a sign that water damage could occur.  If this puddle is left over a long period of time, the water could seep into the floors and cause severe water damage.  There’s also the possibility that a sink or toilet could be leaking, just enough to present a wet environment for bacteria to grow.  Without a thorough sanitization, it will be impossible to tell where bacteria has been left to multiply.
